The electric billboards beside the interstate highway aren't designed to display the current value of the lottery prize. What a shame.
If you don’t have your new generator installed by Dynamo Electric, you might as well just shoot yourself in the foot right now!! The job was more work than I anticipated and if a superb team is not doing it you will have more work to do yourself than you expected. This team did it all—even replanting several bushes!! Jim Duckworth, lead electrician, is top notch too. Their phone is 220-2067.
Cheers to John of Johnny Timbers. He did an outstanding job of removing six trunks and a root ball of a crepe myrtle. He used high tech, remote control equipment. He was very efficient and cleaned up well. If you need this kind of service, call John at 757-784-3026. And he has reasonable prices, too. One satisfied customer.
A recent call to Shelton Home Improvements (817-3339) for leaf removal from gutters resulted in a truly rewarding experience! Not only was the job done, it was completed with meticulous attention to detail at reasonable cost. Expectations were more than met by Mr. Shelton, and I look forward to working with him on future “around the house” projects.
Didn’t VDOT just straighten out a portion of Centerville Road in the last 10 years not far from the Greensprings Grocery? Now they want to put another bend in the road near the same area to accommodate a round-about? What a waste of taxpayer money. A stop light would make much more sense at this T intersection.
I’ve been reading all the articles on the Stryker Building and how ugly it is. Would you please put in the Last Word where this building is specifically? I don’t believe I’ve ever seen it, even though I’ve lived in Williamsburg for almost seven years now. I’d like to know where it is and what the address is. I want to see it for myself. Thank you very much. Editor’s note: The building is at 209 North Boundary St.
Amazing what green grass can do—too bad most of it was eliminated by the intrusive, arrogantly designed building. Although the insertion of sod aided the appearance of the Stryker, it is and always will be an inappropriate building for that space and this town. Think the saying “putting lipstick on a pig” applies to the landscape efforts. I add my two thumbs down for our City Council and whatever review was applied by the Architectural Review Board in allowing this structure.
Oil prices, jobs
I have no recollection of George Bush being blamed for oil spiking to 150 a barrel, over 4 times higher than today in 2006 has a writer alluded to in a recent post. Everyone knew it was speculators artificially removing oil from the market with futures contracts. Once very few traders were actually taking delivery of the oil, the price collapsed. I think everyone gave Bush credit for gas being a little under $2 the day he left office. 2.5 million Americans lost their jobs the last 5 months he was in office and they parked their cars and tractor trailers using 30 million gallons of gas and diesel a day which lowered the price. Job well done, Mr. President.
Some Jamestown parents complain about the coaches so the school decided to change coaches, Oh yeah, they resigned. Now they hire one of the parents who complained to be the JV coach. Nothing can go wrong with this.
The Daily Press reported some days ago about the guardrail ends replacement by VDOT for the cost of $100 million. I have been asking others and myself if this is more important than fixing Virginia roads. What will VDOT do about all the traffic light posts, road signs or all the trees we have on the roads ? Are they going to pack them in rubber packing ? We need better and more qualified DMV people who do not give every person a driver’s license. Five to eight % of people should not have a driver’s license at all. Every driver is responsible for his actions, like adjusting his speed according to weather and road conditions, etc.
