Amber Ox celebrates opening with ribbon-cutting ceremony

City officials and Amber Ox Public House staff came together to celebrate one of the newest additions to Williamsburg’s culinary scene with a ribbon-cutting ceremony Friday afternoon.

As the city’s first craft brewpub, Amber Ox offers a fresh dining experience for residents and is also an important addition to the area’s tourism industry, Williamsburg Mayor Paul Freiling said

“There is absolutely nothing else like this in the city of Williamsburg,” Freiling said.

The restaurant at 521 Prince George St. features hand-made small batches of beer, cocktails and southern cuisine sourced from local farms, Freiling said. Amber Ox’s offerings includes beer from local breweries as well as fried chicken, grits and hamburgers.

Co-owners Chris Cook and Andrew Voss possess more than 25 years of combined experience in the restaurant business. With that experience, the duo brings 40 jobs and more than $1.1 million in investment to Williamsburg with their restaurant, Freiling said.

The restaurant is committed to providing a new experience for Williamsburg diners with its variety of regional brews and a farm-to-table menu, Cook said.

“We’re excited to be here,” Cook said.

The ribbon-cutting ceremony kicked off the restaurant’s opening weekend. Amber Ox will be open 4 p.m. to 1 a.m. Friday and Saturday and 4 p.m. to 12 a.m. Sunday. The restaurant is booked up for dinner reservations, but both the bar and patio areas will be open to walk-ins, Cook said.

“We’re really excited to open the doors. It’s been a long time coming,” Voss said.
