The Williamsburg-James City County School Board will discuss changes to special education policy, grants for technical educationand the purchase of additional school buses for the division at its April 9 meeting.
The main focus of discussion will be the annual plans submitted to receive federal funding for special education and technical education for the 2019-2020 school year. The yearly process of renewing the grant submissions have impact little in terms of policy, and the main changes are to the amounts being requested. There may be some discussion over the eventual allocation.
In addition, other items up for discussion include the potential purchase of six additional school buses for the division at the cost of $658,548, and the adoption and purchase of new Algebra I textbooks, at the cost of $113,575.
“We knew the yearly renewals were coming up, and we try to update our books and add new buses whenever we can,” said board member Kyra Cook. “A lot of what will be discussed at this meeting is pretty straightforward, pretty routine, but sometimes, routine is important.”
The school board work session is at 6:30 p.m. April 9 at the W-JCC Central Office, 117 Ironbound Road, Room 300.
