Police: bicyclist seriously injured in Monticello Ave vehicle crash

A bicyclist was seriously injured when he was hit by a vehicle on Monticello Avenue in James City while trying to cross the street.

On Dec. 22 around 7 p.m., James City police were called to a bicyclist-vehicle accident in the 4900 block of Monticello Avenue, according to a James City County news release.

The bicyclist was trying to cross the road when he was hit by a passenger vehicle headed eastbound, the release said.

The bicyclist was seriously injured in the crash and transported by helicopter to the Virginia Commonwealth University Medical Center in Richmond, according to the release.

At the time of the crash, the bicyclist was not wearing reflective clothing, the release said. No charges have been filed against the driver of the vehicle.

The James City County Police Department is investigating the incident, according to the release.
