Riverside addition will add third operating room

Riverside representatives celebrated hitting a milestone on a new construction project at its Williamsburg hospital with a ceremonial beam-raising Tuesday.

Construction is underway at Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg on a new two-story addition, according to a news release. The addition will include a third operating room, a new diagnostic space for its MRI full-body scanner, which was recently moved to the Williamsburg hospital from its family medicine center on Kings Way, and additional storage space.

The project is expected to be completed in the first quarter of 2019.

Adria Vanhoozier, vice president and administrator at Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg, said the added space will help the hospital continue to meet its standard of care for its patients.

“The need for additional operating space was vital as we continue to invest and grow our specialty care providers and services for the community. Moving the MRI from our Kings Way facility to the hospital translates into more seamless, onsite care for our patients,” she said. “The growth and expansion of these two services demonstrates Riverside Doctors’ Hospital’s commitment to invest, grow and serve the greater Williamsburg community.”

The 100,000-square-foot Williamsburg hospital is currently two stories, and has 40 private patient rooms, 33 medical and surgical patient rooms and seven intensive care rooms. Since opening in 2013, Riverside Doctors’ Hospital Williamsburg has treated more than 16,000 patients brought to the hospital by EMS and cared for more than 69,000 who came to the hospital on their own, according to the release.
