Fireworks show causes brush fire at Busch Gardens

A small brush fire broke out during the New Year’s Eve fireworks show at Busch Gardens, but there were no injuries and park operations continued as normal, according to a park spokesman.

The brush fire broke out in the Rhine River area just after 9:15 p.m. during the six-minute fireworks show, Busch Gardens senior communications manager Ron Vample said.

The James City County Fire Department, which Vample said is on scene anytime the park puts on a fireworks show, was already at the park and put out the fire within 15 minutes.

Vample said the park stayed open until its normal 10 p.m. close for Christmas Town, which has been open from 2 to 10 p.m. daily since Nov. 24 and concludes Monday evening. Christmas Town features more than eight million lights adorning the park.

Vample said the park is currently doing an assessment of the damage.

Busch Gardens will be open as normal Monday evening until 10 p.m. for the final night of Christmas Town.
