Yorktown’s Cabin Fever Concert Series kicks off Thursday at the Freight Shed with Caroline Scruggs and the 504 Supreme Trio.
Kevin Ritchie, event planner for York County Tourism Development, said this is the concert series’ 11th year running.
“The idea was kind of born out of let's try to do something off-season,” Ritchie said. “(The Cabin Fever Concert Series) is a chance for people to get out of the house and come down to the Riverwalk.”
Originally, the series was only three concerts long, but Ritchie said it has grown to six performances since last year. He said performers tend to be from around the Hampton Roads area.
“It's a great lineup, a little bit of music for everybody,” Ritchie said. “We’ve got some groups that play jazz, we’ve got the Mullins Sisters that play Appalachian and traditional country.”
The Mullins Sisters, a three-person country group, said they look forward to playing the concert series.
“We are excited for the opportunity to do more in Yorktown, honestly,” said Deanna Mullins, the eldest of the trio.
Mullins said the group always tries to add its own touch to every song they play, even if it’s a cover.
“We typically hear ‘I don't like country music, but I love y'all’ at our live shows,’ ” Mullins said. “That's a great feeling because you know you've really touched someone for them to come up and let you know that.”
Even with the many great musical acts, Ritchie said his favorite part of the concert series is seeing people enjoy themselves.
“We get some people who have been coming to this years for years, it’s great to see them come back,” Ritchie said. “It’s a neat series it really is. People enjoy getting out of the house and coming down to the Riverwalk, enjoy themselves listening to music.”
