Community of Faith Mission extended its shelter hours for Wednesday night and Thursday morning as snow falls in Williamsburg.
“Typically we’re a night time shelter but when we get extreme weather like this. We try and remain open during the day,” said Ashley Willis, executive director. “It’s a huge blessing.”
Snow began to fall around 9 p.m. in Williamsburg on Wednesday night. The National Weather Service is calling for 3-7 inches through 10 a.m. Thursday.
Usually the shelter is open from 6:30 p.m. until 7 a.m. but on Thursday the shelter will remain open throughout the day.
The shelter is located at the New Town United Methodist Church, 5209 Monticello Ave.
The shelter closes nightly at 9 p.m and can house a maximum of 25 people.
The shelter reached full capacity on Wednesday night, Willis said.
