Airport Road in James City and York counties will close Tuesday morning, Jan. 29, as CSX railway performs maintenance work.
The closure of Airport Road between Richmond Road and Mooretown Road will begin at 6 a.m. Tuesday and end by 5 p.m. Thursday, according to a Virginia Department of Transportation news release.
The tenth of a mile-long stretch of road between Richmond and Mooretown roads serves as a connector between the two thoroughfares. The rest of Airport Road between Mooretown Road and Rochambeau Drive will remain open.
Motorists and residents should follow a detour along Mooretown Road to Waller Mill Road and then cut back to Richmond Road, the release states.
Amtrak spokeswoman Kimberly Woods said in an email that there have not been any announced changes to Amtrak scheduling to the Williamsburg station due to the project.
Amtrak has two scheduled departures on Tuesday after the road closure begins, according to its online booking website.
CSX officials have not responded to a request for comment.
Motorists can help plan their route with VDOT’s 511 app, Waze, a visit to the 511 Virginia website at bit.ly/2RmPXUd or call 511.
