'Follow the money' to understand politics

I could and would agree with Ms. Judy Fuss's letter regarding our obligations and potential influence as informed voters, except that, since the Citizens United Supreme Court decision, we individuals no longer have the power nor the influence we once had. It now belongs to the super-rich.

Led by the Koch brothers, joined by the DeVos, Sciafe and Adelson families and other wealthy, far right and/or Libertarian donors, these people have contributed (or should I say laundered) hundreds of millions of tax-free dollars through political-donor institutions which masquerade as "charities" and educational think tanks, when, in reality, they are campaign funding mechanisms for the candidates who will support and further the interests of the wealthiest among us.

Several of Trump's appointees, members of Congress as well as the leaders of both houses are the beneficiaries of the Koch brothers' largesse. Much of the redistricting which has taken place since 2010 to insure far-right state politicians have easier roads to election has been organized and supported financially by these "citizen" cabals of the super-rich.

In other words, our new administration is draining the wrong swamp. If you wish to truly understand what is happening to our democracy, its institutions and our elections, just "follow the money."
