A Saturday fire at Busch Gardens has shut down one of its rides indefinitely.

There was a “small” fire on the roof of the Escape from Pompeii attraction on Saturday, July 21, park spokesman Ron Vample said.

The water ride in Italy Village was not operating at the time of the fire, according to Vample.

“The ride was not operating and no guests or ambassadors were in the area at that time,” Vample said. “The safety of our guests and ambassadors remains our top priority.”

The James City County Fire Department responded to the scene and extinguished the fire, according to Vample. Fire officials referred questions about the fire to Busch Gardens’ officials.

There is no timeline on when the ride might reopen, Vample said.

The cause of the fire has yet to be determined, according to Vample.
