Store owners in the High Street shopping center wanted a way to showcase the new and exciting opportunities the business district has to offer.
After talking among themselves, the owners decided to host A Taste of High Street, an all-day event that will feature live music, bounce houses and food samples.
“As a new business owner, A Taste of High Street is not only great for promoting our business, but the other businesses here. High Street has a lot to offer,” said Tami Walton, co-owner of Orangetheory Fitness, which will open in October.
At the Taste of High Street, Orangetheory Fitness will conduct an outdoor workout with its new members and showcase some of their innovative exercises. The gym will also be open for tours.
Other participating businesses include Movie Tavern, Revolution Golf and Grille, Plaza Azteca, Coldwell Bankers, Le Yaca and EVB.
“The businesses that are participating are all going to provide a taste or sample of their business,” said Jacquelyn Liebler, director of marketing and sales at Revolution Golf and Grille.
Revolution Golf and Grille is an interactive sports bar that opened in June. The bar has 48 TVs, six golf course simulators and can seat 175 people.
The festival will not only promote local shops, but will also benefit area schools.
Liebler said Revolution Golf and Grille will offer $1 “golf skee-ball” games with all the proceeds going to Toano, Berkeley and Hornsby middle schools.
There will also be donation buckets for hurricane disaster victims and hurricane rescue for animals. Liebler said the businesses are using YouCaring.com, a crowdfunding website, to disseminate the funds.
The Williamsburg British Car Club and the Heritage Humane Society will also be in attendance.
The Virginia Beer Company, Aleworks and the Williamsburg Winery will offer beer and wine tastings.
“We wanted to do something that united us and was free for the public,” Liebler said.
