Historic Jamestowne celebrates Christmas with song and bonfire

It’s going to look a lot like a 17th-century Christmas at Historic Jamestowne, which will hold a historical celebration of the season Dec. 15.

The event will give visitors a glimpse of the era’s English Christmas traditions. Sir George Yeardley, Virginia’s governor in 1620, will greet visitors who come to Historic Jamestowne’s At Christmas Be Mery event, which will feature caroling, a bonfire and Christmas guns, according to a Historic Jamestowne news release.

Visitors will be escorted along a cresset-lit pathway to the 1608 church, where Yeardley will invite visitors to join in caroling, the release states.

The outdoor event takes place at 6 p.m. and 7:30 p.m. Dec. 15. The Historic Jamestowne gates will open at 5:15 p.m. Tickets for the event are $18 each and can be purchased at historicjamestowne.org/shop/programs/events/2018-christmas-ticket.
