County to hold public hearing to gather residents' comments on budget

County residents will have a chance to voice their opinions on budget priorities with the Board of Supervisors at a public hearing Tuesday.

The meeting will be held during the Board of Supervisors’ monthly work session at county government offices. The meeting represents the official season kickoff for the fiscal year 2020 budget.

The public hearing comes as way for residents to share their thoughts about how the county should spend money in fiscal year 2020. Those comments will be used to inform county staff as they create a budget proposal for the board’s consideration in May, county finance director Suzanne Mellen wrote in a memo to supervisors.

The board won’t take action related to the budget at the meeting. Supervisors are scheduled to have a pre-budget work session after the public hearing, according to the meeting agenda.

Residents who can’t make Tuesday’s meeting will have other opportunities to weigh in on the budget.

The proposed budget will be posted to the county’s website on March 29. A public hearing will follow on April 9. After budget work sessions on April 23 and April 30, the Board of Supervisors is scheduled to adopt the budget May 14, according to the county website.
