Sharon Day has been promoted to director of James City County’s financial and management services department.
Day had been serving as the county’s interim finance director since the departure of Sue Mellen, who retired as chief of the county’s finance department in April.
Prior to her appointment as interim director, Day had served as the county’s assistant finance director since August 2016. She has more than 20 years of experience in both private and public sector accounting.
“I am delighted to have Ms. Day as part of my Executive Leadership Team,” County Administrator Scott Stevens said in a county news release announcing her promotion Tuesday. “I look forward to her success in this new role with James City County.”
As head of the finance department, Day will oversee preparation of James City County’s annual operating and capital improvement budget, as well as fiscal and management studies of the county’s programs.
Day’s promotion was effective June 3. Day, who is a licensed certified public accountant, holds a bachelor’s degree in accounting from Christopher Newport University and a master’s in accounting from Old Dominion University, according to the county release.
