James City County police have arrested a fourth person in the 2013 death of a 42-year-old woman.
Gregory Andrew Crawford, 25, of James City County, has been charged with first-degree murder in connection to the death of Dana Patterson Mackay, according to a news release from the James City County Police Department.
Mackay was found dead in her bedroom in a home in the 100 block of Teal Way in the Seasons Trace subdivision on July 27, 2013, and officials later determined she died after suffering from blunt force trauma.
Police initially arrested her husband, John Wayne Mackay, an Army staff sergeant stationed at Fort Eustis, as well as Nicole Michelle Houchin, in connection to her death.
Authorities said John Mackay and Houchin, who worked together at AutoZone, were having an affair and Dana Mackay did not want to grant her husband a divorce.
Crawford is accused of breaking into Dana Mackay’s home with Houchin and her husband Nace Eugene Houchin, who was also charged in her death, the release stated. He was charged in connection to the incident in November 2013.
Police said Nace Houchin beat Dana Mackay to death with a breaker bar, and both Crawford and Nace Houchin thought John Mackay would give them $20,000 for killing her.
Crawford worked with John Mackay and Nicole Houchin at AutoZone, James City County Deputy Chief Stephen A. Rubino said.
He is being held at the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail without bond, the release stated.
John Mackay and Nicole Houchin pleaded guilty on first-degree murder in Williamsburg/James City County Circuit Court on Feb. 9 and will be sentenced later, according to the release.
Nace Houchin is expected to stand trial next month and is in the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail in the meantime.
