Four people were injured, two seriously, following an accident Sunday afternoon involving a James City County fire truck and a septic truck in the 9500 block of Richmond Road, according to police.
The driver and passenger in the septic truck were taken to VCU Medical Center in Richmond with serious injuries, according to James City County Police spokeswoman Stephanie Williams in a news release. The driver and passenger of the fire truck were taken to Riverside Doctors’ Hospital in Williamsburg with minor injuries, Williams said.
The crash took place just after 12 p.m. at the intersection of Richmond Road and Rochambeau Drive at Anderson’s Corner, Williams said, as firefighters were responding to a structure fire in the 9500 block of Richmond Road.
The fire truck, with its lights and sirens on, was traveling west on Richmond Road just after 12 p.m. and was on its way to the fire when it approached the intersection of Richmond Road and Rochambeau Drive and collided with an Atlantic Systems septic truck, also traveling west on Richmond Road, Williams said.
About 4,000 gallons of septic waste from the septic truck and water from the fire truck spilled in the area, Williams said.
As of 5:15 p.m., Williams said the intersection had reopened.
