Fire marshals are looking into the cause of a fire late Sunday evening in the 200 block of Debra Drive that sent one person to the hospital to be treated for smoke inhalation and caused ‘significant’ damage, according to James City County fire chief Ryan Ashe.
The person was able to get out of the home safely before the James City County Fire Department arrived, and was taken to VCU Medical Center in Richmond, Ashe said in a news release.
Crews responded to the fire at 11:38 p.m. and found the rear of the two-story home on fire, Ashe said.
Ashe said the home sustained significant fire and smoke damage, and the fire was under control by 12:04 a.m.
Fire marshals are investigating the cause of the fire, Ashe said.
