A Lightfoot man has been criminally charged after he allegedly stole two vacuum cleaners valued at nearly $850 from Target.

Jonathan Maurice Quintanilla, 28 of James City County, was charged with grand larceny, according to an arrest warrant filed in York-Poquoson General District Court.

On Dec. 27 just after 2:30 p.m., three York-Poquoson Sheriff’s Office deputies were called to the Marquis Parkway Target for a theft in progress, according to the court filings.

Two deputies detained Quintanilla as a third deputy watched security footage with the loss prevention officer at the store, the documents said.

The footage showed Quintanilla attempting to leave the store through the customer service area with two vacuums worth $849.98, according to the court filings.

Deputies charged Quintanilla and served him arrest warrants the same day at 4:29 p.m., the documents said. Quintanilla is out on bail, according to online court records. His next court date in York-Poquoson General District Court is Jan. 7 at 8:30 a.m.

If convicted to the maximum extent of the law, Quintanilla could spend as much as 20 years behind bars, or as much as one year behind bars and $2,500 in fines dependent on the court’s discretion.
