Police arrested a man who witnesses said exposed himself in the James City County library on Aug. 25.
Witnesses said Roger Wayne Suttler was exposing himself through the leg of his shorts while looking at a pornographic magazine inside the library, according to Stephanie Williams, a police spokeswoman.
During the incident Suttler, 69, was seated in the teens' area, said Barry Trott, library spokesman. The library has received no reports that Suttler interacted with anyone, Trott said.
The library doesn't carry pornographic materials, and Suttler brought the magazine he viewed into the building, Trott said.
A library visitor reported Suttler's behavior to library staff, who asked Suttler to leave. Suttler left without incident, according to Trott.
"That's the general case," Trott said, noting that when a person considered by staff to be disruptive is asked to leave the person usually does so.
Police officers were called and found Suttler in the parking lot after he was asked by library staff to leave. Suttler was released on a summons for indecent exposure, Williams said.
Suttler has been banned from Williamsburg Regional Library locations, Trott said. The JCC library, located on Croaker Road, is part of the Williamsburg Regional Library system. The last time a similar incident occurred was at the Williamsburg location in 2008, according to Trott.
Suttler's hearing in Williamsburg-James City County General District Court is scheduled for Sept. 13, according to court documents.
