Fire to Merrimac Trail townhouse displaces family, no one injured

A fire to a townhouse on Merrimac Trail early Thursday morning did not cause injuries but it will keep a family of four out of their home at least temporarily, according to the Williamsburg Fire Department.

About 20 Williamsburg and York County firefighters responded to the townhouse in the 285 block of Merrimac Trail around 1:37 a.m., seven minutes after being dispatched, and found light smoke coming from one of the townhouses, according to a Williamsburg Fire Department news release. The fire was out and under control within five minutes, the release said.

The fire is under investigation, and no one was injured, according to the news release.

The Williamsburg Fire Department said the incident, along with this weekend’s time change to move clocks forward by an hour, is a good opportunity for residents to check their smoke alarms and practice a home exit plan in the event of a fire or other emergency.
