A Newport News man was criminally charged after police say he had an illicit Snapchat conversation with a 12-year-old James City girl.

Ronald Morehouse, 43, was charged with using a communication device to solicit a minor, according to James City County Police Department spokeswoman Stephanie Williams.

On March 28, a man called the James City County Police Department to report a man known to his daughter was having an inappropriate conversation with her over a popular mobile messaging app, Williams said.

Officers obtained a felony arrest warrant for Morehouse on April 3 and he was arrested by the Newport News Sheriff’s Office the same day, according to Williams.

Morehouse had no criminal history listed in Williamsburg-James City County, York-Poquoson, Newport News or Hampton general district courts, according to online court records.

If convicted, Morehouse faces as much as 10 years in jail and $2,500 in fines, according to Virginia Code.
