Update: Driver remains hospitalized after head-on fatal collision in Grove

JAMES CITY - A 50-year-old man is dead and another man was hospitalized following a head-on collision Saturday night in the Grove area of the county.

According to James City County Police, officers responded to the crash just after 7 p.m. near James River Elementary School. A GMC pickup truck was traveling west in the eastbound lane when it struck an eastbound Cadillac.

The driver of the Cadillac, 50-year-old Jerry Matthew Minkins of James City, was pronounced dead at Riverside Doctors Hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was flown to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital. Stephanie Williams of James City police said Monday that the driver of the pickup remains in critical condition.

Neither driver was wearing a seatbelt. Alcohol is believed to be a factor, police said.
