What's open and closed on President's Day

While Feb. 22 would be George Washington’s 287th birthday, on Monday the national holiday to celebrate Washington’s birthday will cause municipal offices and schools across Williamsburg to shutter.

James City County

In James City County, municipal offices will close Monday and reopen Tuesday, according to a county news release.

All schools and offices in the Williamsburg-James City County School Division will close for the holiday, according to the division’s academic calendar.

The James City County Recreation Center, Abram Frink Jr Community Center and all county parks will remain open during regular business hours, the release said.

Some stores and offices at county parks will close such as the James City County Marina office, Chickahominy Riverfront Park office, Little Creek Reservoir Park office, according to the release.

Convenience centers and the garbage transfer station will remain open for regular business hours and there will be no change in the curbside recycling schedule, the release said.

Williamsburg

In Williamsburg, city offices including the municipal building, Quarterpath Recreation Center and the Williamsburg-James City County Courthouse will close and reopen Tuesday, according to a Williamsburg news release.

All schools and offices in the Williamsburg-James City County School Division will close for the holiday, according to the division’s academic calendar.

City parks including Waller Mill Park as well as both locations of the Williamsburg Regional Library will remain open during normal business hours, and trash collection will continue as scheduled, the release said.

For water emergencies, call 757-220-2331. The city will accept bill payments via the payment drop box on the front of the municipal building, located at 401 Lafayette St., or at bit.ly/wmbgpaybill. Payments made on the holiday will not be posted until the following day, according to the release.

York County

In York County, all county offices, schools, libraries, courts and social services will be closed for the holiday and reopen Tuesday, according to a county news release.

There will be no change in the trash collection schedule and residents can still drop off trash at the Waste Management transfer station, the release said.

Virginia Cooperative Extension offices will remain open, according to the release.
