A late afternoon fire in Williamsburg displaced two people Tuesday.
Around 4:46 p.m., fire crews from Williamsburg, York and James City were called to Priorslee Lane in the city for a house fire, according to a City of Williamsburg news release.
Fire crews arrived five minutes later and saw smoke rising from the front door of one of the townhouses, the release said.
Fifteen minutes after arrival, firefighters had the fire under control, which was contained to areas near the fireplace in the home’s living room, according to the release.
Two adults were displaced as a result of the fire, the release said. Family members are assisting the pair.
The cause of the fire remains under investigation, according to the release, and city officials remind residents to take extra care when using a fireplace.
