Publix will take over at the old Martin’s location on Monticello Avenue, according to a news release from grocer.
“Further expanding into southeastern Virginia aligns with Publix’s aggressive growth plan for the commonwealth of Virginia,” said Kim Reynolds, Publix media manager, in a prepared statement. “We are looking forward to providing even more residents with the high-quality service and products our customers have come to expect and have earned us recognition throughout the industry.”
The store will employ 140 people and has not specified a grand opening date.
Martin’s, which employed 180 people, closed on July 10.
Publix has 1,162 stores in Florida, Georgia, Alabama, Tennessee, South Carolina, North Carolina and Virginia.
