Police: Man hit by train in Williamsburg dies

A man died after being struck by a CSX coal train Thursday, according to city police.

The train struck the man in the 700 block of York Street around 2:30 p.m., according to Williamsburg Police spokesman Maj. Greg Riley. The man was found by police lying on the tracks, Riley said.

Medics took him to Riverside Regional Medical Center in Newport News, where the man died around 8:45 p.m., Riley said.

Police have not released the name of the man pending notification of next of kin.

Williamsburg Police and CSX officials are investigating the incident, Riley said.
