The Virginia Regional Ballet is aiming to get more teens active this summer with dance camp scholarships.
Funded in part by the Williamsburg Health Foundation, the scholarships will enable participants to join week-long fitness camps at the ballet's Williamsburg studio. Based in dance but not restricted to it, participants spend nearly six hours each day doing Zumba, yoga, strength training and Bollywood dance, according to a Regional Ballet news release.
The week-long camps, which start July 17, also include a daily nutrition class, according to the release. Students ages 11-16 can attend a one-week session or all three back-to-back.
Each camp is Monday through Friday from 9:15 a.m. to 3 p.m. with a performance for families each Friday. The camps are regularly $125 for a week or $300 for all three sessions and lunch is included.
About 10 scholarships are available to families with demonstrated need, parent volunteer Priscilla Caldwell said. Those applications are due by the Saturday before the week of camp.
For the first week scholarship applications are due by July 15, for the second week it's July 22 and for the third it's July 29. There is a finite amount of scholarship funding, she said.
Williams can be reached by phone at 757-345-2341.
Camps run July 17-21, July 24-28 and July 31-Aug 4 from 9:15 a.m.-3:00 p.m. each day.
