Revolution3 Triathlon events will affect traffic this weekend

Chickahominy Riverfront Park is the location for the Revolution3 Triathlon events on July 7-8, which will impact traffic on Route 5 and park facilities.

On Saturday, a sprint triathlon and kids' duathlon from 5 a.m.-11 a.m. will impact Route 5 and the park. On Sunday, Olympic and half triathlon events will take place between 5 a.m.-1 p.m.

The bicycle and running legs of the triathlon will start at Chickahominy Riverfront Park and cross the Judith Stewart Dresser Bridge into Charles City County. The Virginia Capital Trail will be used for the run portion of the triathlon and may cause minor delays to motorists during Saturday’s sprint event. The run portion will cause no delays on Sunday.

James City County Police will direct traffic in front of Chickahominy Riverfront Park during the race to aid in preventing delays. Bicyclists will be on the roadway throughout the morning, so drivers should use caution.

The swim portion of the event will take place in Gordon Creek to the Chickahominy River and will affect the boat ramp and fishing pier at Chickahominy Riverfront Park. There will be no use of the fishing pier from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. on Saturday, and the fishing pier, boat ramp and paddlecraft rentals will be closed on Sunday.

Alternative locations for pier fishing include Powhatan Creek Park on 1831 Jamestown Road and Little Creek Reservoir Park on 180 Lakeview Drive.
