The county Board of Supervisors has a new chairwoman.
Supervisor Ruth Larson was given the title at the group’s Tuesday organizational meeting
As chairwoman, Larson will lead monthly board meetings and make public appearances on behalf of the supervisors.
“I appreciate the trust of my colleagues thinking I will do a good job leading the board,” Larson said. “We want to get things done for James City County. We might not always agree, but we’ve made a decision to work it out at the board table and leave as friends.”
Supervisor Jim Icenhour will serve as vice chairman. Both positions will run until Dec. 31.
Icenhour, who served on the board from 2006-13, was elected back to the Board of Supervisors Nov. 6. He served as vice chairman in 2007.
As vice chairman, Icenhour said he will mainly serve as the backup to Larson if she can’t make a meeting or event.
“As vice chairman, it helps you stay involved in what’s going on. This group is very involved in communicating with each other,” Icenhour said.
Supervisor Kevin Onizuk served as the chairman last year. He did not seek re-election to the Board of Supervisors, saying he wanted to focus on his family and career.
Supervisors also approved their meeting schedule Tuesday .
Regular meetings will take place at 5 p.m. on the second Tuesday of each month, and work sessions will take place at 4 p.m. on the fourth Tuesday of each month.
