The Salvation Army invites you to have tea time with teddy bears

Do you enjoy teddy bears, treats and tea? Then the Salvation Army Women’s Auxilary’s 12th Annual Teddy Bear Tea at Bruton Parish Hall is just the event for you.

While this may sound like a child’s event, it is for those who are still children at heart.

“(The Teddy Bear Tea) is really enjoyable because it's an afternoon tea and you get to enjoy it with your girl friends or your family members,” said Lieutenant Whitney Lind of the Salvation Army.

The tea is named for the teddy bears that are sold to raise money for the charity. So sorry folks, that means you’ll need to leave your teddy bears at home.

Lind said the stuffed animals for sale have been dressed in outfits created by members of the community. In addition to the teddy bear sale, Lind said there will also be a silent auction at the tea with a variety of items for bid.

Last year the tea raised around $8,000 according to Lind. The funds helped run Salvation Army projects like the Christmas Angel Tree Program and Transitional Housing.

While the money raised goes to the Williamsburg Salvation Army as a whole, Lind said the event is planned and run by the Salvation Army Women’s Auxiliary.

The tea will be from 2-4 p.m. Nov. 8 at Bruton Parish Hall on 331 W. Duke of Gloucester Street. Cost is $20 for adults and $7 for children.
