After a stint in the job as an interim hire, Terry Banez has been named the permanent executive director of the Greater Williamsburg Chamber and Tourism Alliance Business Council.
Banez first came to the alliance as the Business Council’s interim executive director in September. Since that time, membership with the Business Council has increased by 48 percent, according to an alliance news release announcing Banez’s promotion Wednesday.
“We have received overwhelmingly positive feedback from our staff, members and the community at large about the successful job that Terry has done in leading the Business Council,” alliance board chairwoman Jeanne Zeidler said in the release. “We felt it was the appropriate time to remove ‘interim’ from her title.”
Banez consolidated the alliance’s young professionals group ASCEND of Williamsburg with another local group, Young Emerging Professionals, into a single group for young people looking to network and develop professionally, ASPIRE Young Professionals of the Greater Williamsburg Business Council. The new group launched this month.
The Business Council is a newly created subcommittee of the alliance that focuses on the region’s businesses and economic growth. As the Business Council’s executive director, Banez has joint leadership of the alliance with the Tourism Council’s executive director. The Tourism Council’s head is another newcomer, Vicki Cimino, who will assume her position April 15. Both the Business Council and Tourism Council were created as part of a restructuring of the alliance.
“I am honored to continue leading the Business Council and to have the support of the alliance board of directors, staff and our local businesses,” Banez said in the release.
