NEW KENT - The driver of a 2005 Freightliner tractor-trailer was killed Wednesday evening when his truck ran off the westbound lanes of Interstate 64 and struck a tree then overturned.
The accident happened just after 7:50 p.m. at exit 220, said Virginia State Police Sgt. Stephan Vick. The accident involved no other vehicles, and the left lane of the interstate is blocked, Vick said.
The truck spilled a large amount of diesel fuel; it was loaded with rolls of fiberglass. The driver, who was wearing his seatbelt, has not been identified pending notification of family.
The crash remains under investigation.
