James Blair principal replaced over bullying incidents

Staff writer

After months of parental complaints and reported bullying of students, Williamsburg-James City County Schools has announced a change in leadership at James Blair Middle School.

In a statement emailed to parents, Olwen Herron, Superintendent of W-JCC County Schools, said Corey Murphy, W-JCC Schools Chief of Staff, will serve as the acting principal of James Blair Middle School effective immediately. This is in addition to his current responsibilities within the school division.

Ty Harris, the former principal, will now serve as the school’s acting associate principal, tasked with monitoring academic progress and overseeing SOL testing during the second semester.

In addition to changes in leadership, Herron promised that additional security resources will be made available to James Blair Middle School, including hiring of a full-time security assistant to patrol problem areas on school grounds.
