A pair of accidents Friday morning on Interstate 64 west backed up traffic for several miles, according to the Virginia Department of Transportation, but have now been cleared.
The first accident took place around 6:10 a.m. on I-64 west past Busch Gardens around exit 243 in York County, according to VDOT spokeswoman Brittany McBride Nichols. All lanes were blocked, but reopened around 7:10 a.m., she said.
The second accident — on I-64 west at Colonial Parkway — happened about a half-hour after the first accident was cleared, McBride Nichols said. Traffic was detoured at US-60/Busch Gardens at exit 243, she said, and later detoured at Route 199 at exit 242B.
VDOT said drivers can expect delays until 5 p.m. Friday from mile markers 244 to 243 due to roadside maintenance, with the right shoulder on I-64 west being a mobile closure.
