The Virginia Department of Transportation has announced a section of Monticello Avenue in James City County will be closed starting Dec. 12 for emergency repairs.
The road will be closed between Centerville Road and John Tyler Highway from Dec. 12-23, according to a news release from VDOT.
The road is beginning to settle at the point it passes over a golf cart tunnel, VDOT spokeswoman Brittany McBride said. The road must be closed while crews dig up the pavement to determine what is causing the problem.
She said the work will continue 24 hours a day to speed up the process and minimize day-to-day interruptions for the public.
A detour will be put in place for both directions.
Westbound traffic can turn left onto Centerville Road then left onto John Tyler Highway, according to a the VDOT news release.
Eastbound traffic can turn right onto John Tyler Highway and then left onto Centerville Road to get around the roadwork.
