Veterans Day events and closings


The Department of Motor Vehicles' customer service centers are closed Saturday.


The Combined Veterans Organization Committee tribute at Veterans Tribute Tower

The group will host a tribute to past and present veterans. Capt. Matthew Kosnar from the U.S. Navy will serve as the guest speaker.

When: 10 a.m. Saturday

Where: 5380 Discovery Park Blvd., in New Town

Veterans and Forgotten Patriots ceremony

The Williamsburg Chapter of the Sons of the American Revolution will observe Veterans Day by conducting a wreath laying ceremony at the Governor’s Palace Revolutionary War Cemetery.

When: 11 a.m. Saturday.

Where: 300 Palace Green St.

Book signing

Tara McClary Reeves, daughter of Marine veteran Cleve McClary and author ofIs your Dad a Pirate?will host a book signing at the College of William and Mary bookstore. The book tells the story of her family embracing her father after he returned home from the Vietnam war.

When: 10 a.m. to noon Saturday.

Where: 345 W. Duke of Gloucester St

Veterans Day Weekend Workshop

Joseph Bathanti, a creative writing professor at Appalachian State University, will host a writing workshop at William and Mary’s business school.

When: 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday.

Where: 101 Ukrop Way

York County Veterans Day ceremony

The York County Historical Committee will host a Veterans Day commemoration, where members will read excerpts from letters written during wartime deployment from local soldiers, sailors and Airmen to their families back home. The service also includes a presentation of colors, singing of the National Anthem, the Pledge of Allegiance and Taps.

When: Noon Saturday.

Colonial Williamsburg Military March

Colonial Williamsburg will host a march featuring the Fife & Drums, Military programs staff and Williamsburg veterans groups.

When: 4-4:30 p.m. Saturday.

Where: Market Square North, behind the Courthouse
