Even as the National Weather Service predicts a warmer than usual winter for Williamsburg, enthusiasts and beginners can enjoy a traditionally chilly experience in the heart of Merchants Square: ice skating.
Liberty Ice Pavilion, now in its fourth season, will allow skaters to zig, zag and spin on the 50’ by 70’ ice rink until Feb. 18, 2019.
The rink is sponsored by Dominion Energy through its charitable arm and Dominion spokeswoman Bonita Harris said the sponsorship was an attempt to foster a vibrant community life.
“It definitely allows for students to have something fun to do during school breaks,” Harris said in an email. “The dates allow for skating during Thanksgiving, Christmas, New Years — even Valentine’s Day.”
The ice rink is open from noon-8 p.m. Sunday through Thursdays noon-10 p.m., and from 10 a.m.-10 p.m.Friday and Saturday.
Single-day tickets to the rink are $12 for adults and $10 for children ages 3 to 12. Season passes are available for $100 for adults and $85 for children ages 3 to 12.
Don’t own a pair of ice skates? Don’t worry. The rink rents skates for $4.25, tax included.
Skaters can warm up with a cup of hot cider, coffee or snacks like popcorn or hotdogs at the nearby refreshment stand.
