William and Mary professor faces four child pornography charges

A William and Mary researcher is accused of possessing child pornography, according to college spokesperson Suzanne Seurattan.

Michael D. Wilson, 46, of Richmond, was arrested on Friday afternoon by William and Mary police, she said.

College officials said Wilson was charged with four felony counts of possession of child pornography and was taken to the Virginia Peninsula Regional Jail.

Wilson, who has worked at the college since 2004, is a research biologist at the Center for Conservation Biology. According to the Center's webpage, Wilson focused his studies on ecology and bird populations.

Wilson has been placed on administrative leave and is prohibited from being on campus, Seurattan said.
