Rowing regatta raises over $1,400 for CHKD

A rowing regatta on the Chickahominy River brought more than racers from across Tidewater.

The Williamsburg Boat Club raised nearly $1,400 for the Children’s Hospital of the King’s Daughter’s at the “Beak of the Chick” rowing regatta on Aug. 4, according to a Williamsburg Boat Club news release.

The regional event featured more than 20 races for junior and master rowers.

The regatta opened with the “Mark and Finley Bridge Chase,” an initial race to benefit CHKD.

Rowers paid boat entry fees and pledged donations to the hospital.

The Williamsburg Boat Club delivered a check to Stephanie O’Malley at CHKD development programs at the CHKD health center in Lightfoot Marketplace.

The “Beak of the Chick” could become an annual summer event. Planners seek to include more boaters in the event in the future.
