Emmylou Harris and Norah Jones will headline Williamsburg’s newest music festival, Williamsburg Live, this June.

“We’re thrilled we have two major artists this year for that weekend and a great opener for Emmylou Harris,” said Robert Cross, executive director for Virginia Arts Festival.

“The fact that we were able to get major artists for each night — I think people recognize Williamsburg the city is starting to become a more vibrant place, not just for history, but also for entertainment and fine dining and breweries. (The Virginia Arts Festival is) thrilled to be a part of that growth in Williamsburg and making north Eastern Virginia a destination for the arts.”

Cross said the organization has put on a music festival in Williamsburg for 22 years. The most recent variation was Funhouse Fest, organized by Bruce Hornsby.

When Hornsby put Funhouse on hiatus last October, Cross said the Virginia Arts Festival began putting together something on their own.

“The festival, we have 22 years experience of bringing artists to Hampton Roads,” Cross said. “Everything from small Jazz artists to major artists in Chrysler Hall scope, and in Williamsburg. We’ve got relationships with agents and artists, so we use that 22-year history of the festival to program this weekend.”

The festival will take place at the Art Museums of Colonial Williamsburg’s lawn.

“It's exciting for (the Virginia Arts Festival) because the festival hasn’t worked with Emmylou Harris in a couple years and I’m particularly a huge fan of her, so we’re thrilled to have her back in Hampton Roads, and it’ll be the first time the festival presents Norah Jones, so (Williamsburg Live) will kind of be her Virginia Arts Festival debut.”
