W-JCC School Board officially adopts next school year's budget

The Williamsburg James City County School Board officially adopted the amended 2019-2016 school year budget at their May 15, meeting.

The total amended budget for the upcoming school year is $149,421,523. The Williamsburg City Council and James City County Board of Supervisors approved funding the budget earlier this month. James Beers, Roberts, thanked the Board of Supervisors and City Council for funding the budget at the end of the School Board meeting.

"I too thank the City Council and Board of Supervisors for choosing to invest in our schools,” Lisa Ownby, Powhatan, said.

The amended Five-Year Capital Improvement Plan was also approved by the School Board. It will go from the fiscal year 2019 through the fiscal year 2023 and cost $56,556,870. The money from this budget will be used towards helping maintain and improve W-JCC school’s infrastructure.

The Board also approved of the replacement of one school bus for $52,554. The district only needed to pay half of the cost, because the insurance company gave the school district $55,278. W-JCC will also purchase five new school buses for the opening of James Blair Middle School, which will cost $542,030.
