VSP: Gloucester man charged after 4-vehicle crash involving dump truck leaves one with major injuries

A Gloucester man stands accused of reckless driving after a four-vehicle crash near the intersection of Old Williamsburg Road and Goosley Road left one person with major injuries Thursday.

Tim L. Ellis drove his 2016 Jeep SUV into the oncoming lane as he traveled eastbound down Old Williamsburg Road before he hit a 2007 Mack dump truck and a 2010 Chrysler Sebring, according to Virginia State Police spokeswoman Sgt. Michelle Anaya.

Ellis has been charged with reckless driving and the driver of the Chrysler sedan was transported to a hospital with serious injuries, Anaya said.

The crash with the dump truck laden with sand and the Chrysler sedan turned into an even larger accident when Ellis’s Jeep overturned and struck a 2018 Chrysler Minivan, according to Anaya.

The incident occurred at about 1:21 p.m. Thursday, Anaya said.

At least one sedan appeared heavily damaged in the crash and the dump truck lost its entire load of sand onto the roadway.

The Virginia Department of Transportation and the VSP closed Old Williamsburg Road in both directions and it reopened later Thursday afternoon, according to Anaya.
