Teen jumps off Coleman Bridge, rescued from York River

First responders rescued a 17-year-old girl who jumped off the Coleman Bridge Monday morning, said Lt. Dennis Ivey, public information officer for the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office.

She was seen floating downriver in the York River before first responders answered a report for a water rescue shortly before 11 a.m.,  said Gail Whittaker, a spokeswoman for York County, in an email.

The teen was rescued and taken to the Yorktown Riverwalk piers for medical attention after 11 a.m., Whittaker said.

The rescue was an effort between the York County Department of Fire and Life Safety, the York-Poquoson Sheriff's Office, the York County Emergency Communications/911 Center, the Coleman Bridge, the Gloucester County Sheriff's Office, Abingdon Fire/Rescue and the Naval Weapons Station, Whittaker said.

The incident is under investigation, Whittaker said.
