Where to have fun on Charter Day

The College of William and Mary’s 326th Charter Day is Feb. 8, and there will be plenty of activities to commemorate it.

Charter Day celebrates the day King William and Queen Mary signed William and Mary’s charter. In a sense, it's the school’s birthday. Community members, alumni and students are invited to come and celebrate.

Events include:

Cake Cutting: The Charter Day Cake Cutting will be at 12:30 p.m. in the Commons Dining Hall. The Griffin will be there to take pictures with guests and sing Happy Birthday.

Charter Day Ceremony: The 2019 Charter Day ceremony will be held at 3:30 p.m. in Kaplan Arena. The event is free and open to the public and no tickets are required. Can’t attend? The William and Mary Facebook page will host a live stream of the event.

Block Party: A “Fire and Ice” block party will run from 5-7:30 p.m. in the Kaplan Arena’s Compton parking lot. The event will include s’mores and fire pits, food trucks, a DJ and more. The party is open to all members of the community and is also free.

Comedy Show: Comedian Nicole Byer, host of the Netflix show “Nailed It,” will perform a standup comedy routine at 9 p.m. in the Sadler Center’s Chesapeake Room. Doors open at 8 p.m. Tickets will be sold at the door for $3 for students with ID, $6 for faculty and staff with ID and $10 for the general public.
