William and Mary Homecoming Weekend events

It's October, which means the College of William and Mary’s homecoming is just around the corner.

While homecoming is a student and alumni-centered event, there are plenty of activities for members of the greater Williamsburg community.

There will be a variety of activities and events Oct. 18-21. From the annual parade to Saturday’s tailgate and football game, everyone can find something fun to do.

Friday

The Sullivan Cup — 1:30 p.m.

Have fun playing golf and raising money for William and Mary’s golf teams by participating with your friends in the Sullivan Cup at the Williamsburg Golf Club. The cup is named in honor of President Emeritus Tim Sullivan. A member of the college’s golf team will play with each foursome.

Registration, lunch and the range open at noon. The shotgun start begins at 1:30 p.m. Prizes will be presented to the top teams at the awards ceremony with heavy hors-d'oeuvres and an open bar following the event.

From the Page to the Screen: Writers Master Class — 2 p.m.

Alexandra Bracken, author of “The Darkest Minds” series, one of this summer’s blockbusters, and Anne Marie Pace, author of the “Vampirina Ballerina” series, now a hit Disney Jr. TV show, will lead a writers master class.

Hear about their writing processes and the challenges of seeing your work translated for the screen.

The event will cost $25 and has a maximum capacity of 50 people. It will be held in the Ford Classroom of the Swem Library.

Homecoming Parade — 4:30 p.m.

Participate in the fun or join your friends in watching the creativity presented by students, alumni and others. The parade begins at the corner of North Boundary Street and Richmond Road, proceeds along Richmond Road, turns onto Dillard Drive, and ends in the Kaplan Arena parking lot.

Virginia Uncorked — 7 p.m.

Sample the best of Virginia beer, wine and spirits, as well as pay-as-you-go food trucks in the Sunken Garden.

Featured vendors include: Alewerks, Blue Valley Vineyard, Center of the Universe, Commonwealth Brewing Company, James River Cellars, Larry's Lemonade, Pleasure House Brewing Company, Smartmouth Brewing Company, Valley Road Vineyards, Virginia Beer Company and Williamsburg Winery.

Early registration is $25 for Young Guarde and $30 all others. Regular price is $30 for Young Guarde and $35 all others. Non-tasting, no alcohol, tickets are $10.

Saturday

William and Mary Libraries Homecoming Author Breakfast: From the Page to the Screen — 8 a.m.

Presenting are Alexandra Bracken, author of The Darkest Minds series, which is one of this summer’s blockbusters, and Anne Marie Pace, author of the Vampirina Ballerina series, which is now a hit Disney Jr. TV show.

Enjoy breakfast, hear from our guest authors and get a book signed. The college bookstore will have books available for purchase at a discount. The event is free and family friendly.

Breakfast will be from 8-8:30 a.m. followed by author presentations from 8:30-9:30 a.m.; book signings are from 9:30-10 a.m.

Homecoming Tailgate — Noon

Before watching the Tribe take on Maine, head to the Sunken Garden for good food, music and more. N’est Pas will play a special Homecoming concert beginning at 1 p.m.

Early registration is $30 per person, regular price is $40 and child’s price, 12 and under, is $15.

There is also a family-friendly carnival in the Sunken Garden featuring inflatables, face painting and more.

Football Game: William and Mary vs. Maine — 3:30 pm
