Last Word on neutering pets, June 1

The Virginia Gazette
One chilled commenter wonders why grocery stories keep the temperature so cold.

Doing business

Seriously? The school board and finance office were not aware they needed to get bids on the Lafayette Gym project? Anyone who works for WJCC schools in any buying capacity knows that three written quotes are necessary for any purchases over $10,000. Maybe Dr. Constantino needs to cut back on some of his speaking engagements during the school year and brush up on his own policies.

Far too cold

Why are the grocery stores so cold? It cannot be cost effective to run the air conditioning at full throttle when it is cold outside. This makes no sense and it is a waste of resources. This excessive use of AC has been going on all winter. Who wants to shop in a store that is this uncomfortable?

County follow up

In the event the request for a SUP does not pass the approval of the James City County Board of Supervisors permitting bedroom rentals through AirBnB in the Lakewood subdivision, what then is the plan to address and eradicate the current rental of rooms in the residential neighborhood, for commercial gain, without the benefit of permit, license, and payment of state and local taxes?

Caring for pets

Yes, I see a lot of advertising on having your pets spayed or neutered. What if you can't afford to do either one? Is there anyone or any organization out there that will assist those who cannot afford to do that? Thank you.

Now boarding

When I now see airport security lines, it makes me think of ways the situation could be alleviated before I have to deal with it! First, like checked baggage, charge for bags passengers choose to carry on. Airlines would be more profitable and they could cut losses by having fewer passengers missing planes. Airlines could form separate security lines for those who have only one item or a reasonable cause for early boarding—disability, small children or elderly. Those who choose to carry on more items, for their own convenience, will have to wait longer in lines behind others with similar thoughts.

Bird song

I also hear the bird in question but for me, perhaps due to my son Rick (as an adult), I hear the birds call out his childhood name as, "Ricky, Ricky, Ricky." Maybe there are others that hear it differently as well in addition to the reader who wrote the inquiry as "Kitty, Kitty, Kitty." Too funny.

Presidential politics

One has to wonder just how many of those Trump protesters on the Left (West) Coast are in fact illegal immigrants. I hope when Trump becomes President he gives them a one-way ticket back to Mexico.

Donald Trump is an exceptional snake oil salesman. Lots of people have bought the concoction. Think twice before you buy what this person is selling. His witches' brew will stir up lots of trouble, but it will not solve a single problem.

We need to post a person, or more than one, at the golf course because it seems like every time something happens that's important, the president is on the golf course. So, post somebody there, they can call friends and say, "Hey, check and see what's happening because he's on the golf course." Have a blessed day.

Now I've heard everything—a Last Word contributor who offered (Wednesday Gazette) the perfect oxymoron, calling PolitiFact "highly respected"! And just think, Hillary's emails are now coming home to roost and will in all probability be followed shortly by that famous utterance, "what does it matter," when Benghazi rises to the fore again!

So, what does the State Department say about Hillary Clinton ? The report, which you know was issued by State Department's inspector general, was sent to Capitol Hill yesterday, Wednesday. And what did it say? It included that Clinton created a security risk and violated transparency and disclosure policy. The report is 79 pages long. It faults Clinton for not seeking permission to use a personal email account and server.

Railroad crossing

I think it's about time that the railroad company did something about the crossing there at Lightfoot Road. It is coming apart again, and people are having to go onto the shoulder of the road just to get over it without tearing their car. And, while they're at it, maybe they could clean up some of the vegetation that's encroaching on the roadway.

New grocer

Hello. I'm calling because every time I go by the corner of Richmond Road and Centerville, I wonder why are we getting a second Harris Teeter up here in James City County when we could have had, perhaps, a Wegmans or a Costco? That would have been a perfect location for a Wegmans. We deserve a quality store like that up here in James City County/Williamsburg, and I think if the Board of Supervisors had polled the people here, most of the people here would have agreed. That is a quality grocer, quality employer.

Pay for training

It's not that I really (only kind of) resent WJCC spending thousands of dollars to send new (and old?) board members to Boston for training....but what I do resent is that when a teacher wants maybe $100 for registration at a conference (no hotel, no food, nothing but registration), they are told that budget cuts have made that impossible! That is what upsets me!

Looking for ...

Do you have any moving boxes? We are moving and I am looking for some free moving boxes. Please email me at shop.shop.4fun@gmail.com. Thanks for the boxes.

Someone was looking for Mark from European Beauty Concepts. He is now at Mark's Hair Studio, and the phone number is 757-509-1803.

I would appreciate it very much if anyone saw the accident on Friday, around 2:00 p.m. I came to a stop at the red light on 199. Nothing was coming at the time, so I took a right turn onto John Tyler Highway headed toward Strawberry Plains Road. As soon as I took the turn, a black car came out of nowhere and she was trying to get into my lane because she said she had a doctor's appointment. I am guessing she had to take a right on Strawberry Plains Road to go to her doctor. She was trying to come into my lane and smashed into me. Please e-mail me at crobinettef@aol.com or call me at 757-784-5004 if you saw anything. The policeman charged me, not her. I was shocked he did as I was not in the fault. Thank you.

This is in response to the person looking for past print copies of posters from An Occasion for the Arts. I have several copies available. Contact me at 757-741-2757. Thanks.

Vintage tools

I have old (1910 to the 20's) carpenter's tools. Are there any carpenters, clubs or unions that would be interested in acquiring them? If so, please call me to arrange a viewing. 757-253-1563. Thank you.

Recommended

I just visited the newly opened Scotland Street Salon to find my colorist/stylist, Rachel Martin. She's just moved there. It's the most beautiful garden setting. I can't tell you how lovely it is and how happy it makes someone to go there and, they have a couple of beautiful dogs there to visit with. Try it out! It's wonderful.

I wanted to say how happy I am with the service at Williamsburg Jeep-Dodge-Kia. I bought a used car there and could not have been treated better. At time of purchase, I asked for some additional bodywork to be done. The work was done perfectly, quickly and detailed to the maximum before it was returned to me. I recommend Mr. Julian and his entire staff to anyone in the market for great customer service. I hope you'll check him out.

Naming rights

Now that George Mason University has sold the naming rights to its law school to the friends of Antonin Scalia for the proverbial ten pieces of silver, William and Mary should offer Donald Trump the chance to buy the name to its business school and VIMS can sell out and start being called the "Shell Oil Institute of Marine Science."

Relay for life

I participated in the Relay for Life at Warhill High School last weekend and want to congratulate all of the participants and volunteers. It was a great event and made nearly a quarter of a million dollars for the American Cancer Society. Despite the rain, they were there—the volunteers and leadership should be especially applauded for all their hard work and dedication. I'll be back next year. Thank you.
