Looking for someone who could regrout marble tile in a shower. Thank you.
In response to a recent request in the Last Word about a channel for national and world news: A great channel for national and world news is called "One America News" (OAN), Channel 616 on FIOS. Their website is www.oann.com. This channel is not partisan and is not some magazine dealing with gossip. I hope this will be helpful to those who are looking for a good news channel
Can anyone recommend a massage therapist who can provide an effective, reasonably priced massage for a 70-year-old woman? I have a sensitivity to strong smells—so no cosmetic or nail odors or even chemical air fresheners should be in the area. Thank you if you can help.
Did anyone lose a black ladies' sweater with Rotary jewelry attached? This was found near the Golf Pro shop at Colonial Heritage. Please call Beckie at 757-565-2336.
I need a 100 gallon tank or bigger for my two aquatic turtles and at least a 50 gallon for my fish. If anyone has any they're getting rid of, please call or text Amanda (804) 413-1622. I can't afford to buy any new ones right now. Willing to trade for two tanks I have. Thanks!
Is there a list of all the new breweries in Williamsburg? With locations, e-mails, phones, etc. Is there a clearing house in Williamsburg that sells all the new local craft beers in one location? Editor's note: This information is available online at visitwilliamsburg.com/attractions
/wineries-breweries. Check it out.
Can someone tell me where the next Forum will meet, and at what time? Thanks. email@example.com.
Don't the people of Williamsburg get anything at all to say about the group home for residents with mental illness that some state entity has approved on Woodmere Drive near Walsingham Academy?
It's hard to believe that Eastern State Hospital and Gateway couldn't find a more appropriate location to house the eight adult patients and the two staff caregivers than next to school where there are pre-school through 12 graders. With all the real estate that's on the market, it's hard to believe that there wasn't something more appropriate. What about just keeping the wing that is scheduled for closure at Eastern State open and hire the necessary staff to take care of the patients?
Group Homes: From the 9/10/16 issue of the Gazette: "The group home is considered by state and federal law to be a single-family home, according to the DBHDS." Are our state and federal officials really that stupid, or is it that they believe we are stupid enough to believe them? Is this not a democracy? The gilded elites who make these decisions in the dead of night do not want citizen opinions. Should homeowners in the neighborhoods in question be informed about new group homes before or after the decision is made? Do they have no voice?
Wouldn't it be a great idea for Williamsburg/James City County public schools to save some money for a search team for a new superintendent and hire Dr. Herron? She's wonderful.
For my neighbors and friends that buy ice from me on the weekends: I am sorry we were closed on Sunday. I ended up in the emergency room—Saturday evening I was admitted and had surgery Sunday morning. I apologize for any inconvenience it may have caused you. Thank you for your business.
I agree, we need to keep teacher pay in perspective. Every summer teachers are laid off for nine weeks. Additionally, they're laid off for a week and a half every December and another week in April. However, teachers are not able to collect unemployment during these work stoppages so they must work part-time jobs or teach summer school to make ends meet. Also, I don't know any teacher who receives personal vacation time. If a teacher were able to afford a vacation, it must be taken during the forced work stoppages when resorts charge top dollar and are crowded. Please keep this in mind when discussing teacher pay.
I want to thank Christina Berta, the chief financial officer of WJCC schools, for her honesty. She was quoted as saying "older employees with higher salaries and more costly benefits are replaced by younger employees at lower rates." This saved our county $2.3 million dollars. It is now official that experience in the classroom is not valued by our county. No wonder teachers have only received a 2% raise in over four years. Perhaps some of that $3.4 million total surplus should be given to the teachers who stick with this county despite the blatant lack of respect by the school board.
A big thank you to Patti Nicholas and her team to making the 2016 Great Clothing Giveaway at Smith Memorial Baptist Church (August 20). I've been away since then, and I didn't see any mention of this event in the Last Word. Patti and her team work very hard to make our community a better one. Their true desire to live the Christian life shows and is greatly appreciated. We are proud to be annual donors.
Kudos to William and Mary for the renovations to Zable Stadium. The changes will accommodate more fans while retaining the architectural integrity and an intimacy befitting of a "tribal stadium." In addition, the changes make everything more fan friendly, e.g., many more seats have backs, the new steps and hand rails will make ascending and descending stadium tiers much easier and safer, and the upgraded restrooms are a quantum leap in betterment. Congratulations to all who had a hand in this accomplishment!
I hope when the bands for next summer are chosen that they will play the kind of music that the audience that attends can enjoy. An occasional loud non-recognizable music would be acceptable. But week after week is not enjoyable.
To the person who is complaining about the cats in the yard: May I educate you that cats are classed at "free roaming animals" as opposed to dogs. There is no way your new neighbors can keep the cats from going on your property unless you build a tall fence. I think you are over reacting when you say "the stench is so bad you cannot sit outside by your pool." You're talking about two cats, not deer. Don't even think about hurting these cats either; since you brought it up to your new neighbors, you will be the first suspects. Why don't you befriend the cats? That's what good neighbors do.
To the person who was driving a dark colored SUV and that was parked at Farm Fresh at noon on Friday 9th, September, you are very lucky I did not call the police on you. I parked next to your vehicle and saw a Boston Terrier panting with the windows up—it was 90 degrees outside. I sat there for 15 minutes, waiting for you to come out of the store. I was ready to smash your window and call the police. I went into store to make an announcement to call the owner; however, you slipped out. Don't ever do that again!
I have recently seen a couple nice things mentioned about their house cleaner. I cannot say enough for the girl I use. She does a great job on the entire house not just the middle. She been with us for two years now. Hard working single mom, always on time, and just as sweet. Give her a shout, 757-903-1787. I overheard her saying she has a couple of openings.
Hello, I would like to compliment Williamsburg Floral & Gifts in James York Plaza shopping center. They do a beautiful job always. I went to a funeral at a nearby church on Monday and two of the large vases of flowers that they did were breathtakingly beautiful. Everyone was commenting on them and wanting to know who did them. I thought it would be nice if you put that in there. Williamsburg Floral & Gifts did a beautiful, beautiful job. Thank you.
Enviro Wash Inc. removed all the green mold off of our house and left even the gutters looking brand new. Their price was reasonable, and my husband and I would highly recommend them. You can talk to them at 757-599-3164. P.S. It's been over three weeks, and the spiders have yet to return!
To the person seeking a mower repair shop, try the Sears Store on Richmond Road across from and near the Pottery. They did my spring cleaning of my mower and sharpened some cutting tools as well. I'm very satisfied.
I recently had to have emergency service through Shari's Personal Touch Cleaning. Shari was prompt, hard working, reliable and did a fantastic job. My wife and I were so happy that we now have her coming bi-weekly to clean our home. We wouldn't trust anyone else to take care of us the way she does! She also house/pet sits and does all around odd jobs, which is a super plus! Her phone number is 757-876-3713. Thank you.
In this day of businesses being more than happy to separate the uninformed customer from his dollar, it was a pleasure to take my car to the Goodyear store on Monticello and to be advised that there was nothing wrong. The noise I was hearing is a common fault in weather such as we have here in Williamsburg. What a relief and many thanks to Doug and his crew.
Our beloved Bell Hospital. When Dr. B.I. Bell, Jr. decided to close the hospital, he put the word out to anyone who would like something from the hospital. I called and he said I could have one of the tall, white medical supply cabinets if I wanted it, and I did. I'm now downsizing, and it needs a new home. If you want a piece of history, call 757-880-3751 and we will arrange a time for you to pick it up.
I am glad Colin Kaepernick has led the way for many professional athletes to take a stand against injustice in this country. The protest is about injustice but people are making it about the military. Since when has this country taken care of its vets? Look at the VA hospital mess. This form of protest makes it hard for those who want to turn a blind eye these issues to ignore.
The person who believes that political views have no place on the football field might like to think about why the national anthem is played in the first place. Agreeing with, or taking for granted, a set of values does not mean that those values are non-political. Kaepernick is merely responding to one political statement with another. As for the suggestion that he has insulted everybody who loves our great nation: I love America in all of its complexities, and I don't feel in the least bit insulted and neither, I suspect, do those folks who have made his jersey the number one seller in the country.
The geese on 199 have found a new home on Route 60 at the pond at the Riverside Doctors Hospital.
I cannot agree more with the comment about the new policy of no reentry at Tribe football games. I encourage all tailgaters to boycott the second half and not return to the game. Why the change in policy? What "problem" are they trying to correct? Hopefully, they can come up with a $1 standing room ticket for the second half?
I see that the McDonnells got off scot-free. If anybody thinks things have changed in white America, they must be crazy. White America still takes care of their own. If they had [been] black like Jesse Jackson and his wife, they would have been in jail a long time ago, but they were white so they got off scot-free.
I would like to know: Why can't our children have Bibles in school? Why can't our children pray in school? Why can't our prisoners in jail have Bibles and be able to pray?
Mr. Trump must have slept through his civics classes. With respect to his "secret strategy" for an American-Russian defeat of ISIS, and thus re-taking the oil fields that ISIS has captured, he repeatedly states that "to the victors belong the spoils." However, he ignores the fact that the oil fields belong to sovereign states, not ISIS. Is he suggesting, then, that America and or an American-Russian alliance take over the sovereign states, as well? I might expect this from Putin but not from an American president.
This facebook.com entry is hilarious! Clinton says one half of Trump supporters are deplorable. Trump says one half of Clinton supporters are deportable.
