In 1 Thessalonians 5:21, we are instructed to "examine everything carefully; hold fast to that which is good."
We need to apply that good counsel to the arguments being made in support of the Equal Rights Amendment, or the ERA.
Do not be fooled by the misinformation espoused by ERA supporters. They argue this Constitutional Amendment is necessary to ensure equality between the sexes, but the 14th Amendment already ensures that.
What the ERA really does is enshrine abortion rights in our Constitution and force taxpayers to pay for abortions through Medicaid. (See New Mexico Right to Choose, NARAL, et al v. Johnson).
Virginia should not ratify the ERA. Women and men are different, even as they are equally valuable, and our laws can and should reflect that reality.
