Hospice House depends on its volunteers

On the occasion of National Volunteer Week, April 7-13, I would like to publicly thank the many hundreds of volunteers who continue to make Hospice House & Support Care of Williamsburg a critical resource and Williamsburg treasure.

Every single day since opening its doors in 1982, volunteers have given selflessly to ensure that we operate free of charge in the community.

Volunteers work side by side with our staff to sit at the bedside of guests, answer phones, offer tours, provide bereavement support, tend the gardens, fill the bird feeders, prepare food, sew comfort pillows, play music and help with fundraising activities such as the May 4 Hike for Hospice House. We are grateful for our volunteers, known affectionately as “The Guild.”

Caring for people at the end of life, comforting the bereaved and empowering others to do the same is the mission of Hospice House. We are a 501(c)(3) organization that is entirely funded by contributions. No one ever receives a bill for our services or support; nor do we accept Medicare, Medicaid or other reimbursements. If you would like to know more about Hospice House, please contact us at 757-253-1220.
